Description

The Panasonic (formerly SUNX) EX-13EA​ is an ultra-slim through-beam photoelectric sensor​ from the EX-10/13 series — the thinnest class of industrial photoelectric sensors (just 3.5 mm thick). It consists of a separate Emitter (E)​ and Receiver (R)​ pair that detects objects when the light beam between them is interrupted.
  • EX-13EA​ → NPN Normally Open (NO)​ output, 1 m sensing range (through-beam), 1 m cable (pre-wired), 12–24 V DC 3-wire.
  • Housing: 12 × 20 × 3.5 mm (W×H×D approx.) — fits in extremely tight grooves, slit guides, or between close-spaced machine parts where standard Ø4–Ø18 mm barrel sensors cannot go.
  • “A” suffix​ = NPN NO; “P” suffix (EX-13EP)​ = PNP NO.
Through-beam type gives the highest immunity to dust, smoke, and target color/reflectivity — simply breaking the beam triggers it.

  1. NPN vs PNP: EX-13EA = NPN (sinking — black wire → 0V/PLC COM when beam broken / object present). EX-13EP = PNP (sourcing — +24V switched). Verify your PLC input type.
  2. Through-Beam = 2 Pieces: You receive ONE Emitter + ONE Receiver in the box (a pair). Align emitter LED toward receiver lens — green/red LED on receiver helps alignment.
  3. Wiring: Brown (+24V DC), Blue (0V), Black (Output). NPN: Output is OPEN (high/Z) when beam present; goes LOW (≈0V) when beam broken (object detected — NO logic).
  4. Alignment: Power up → adjust until RX LED is steadily ON → move parts through beam to confirm LED extinguishes — if marginal, reduce gap or check for vibration/misalignment.
