Description
The SICK DSL-8U04G02M025KM1 is a programming / configuration interface cable used to connect a PC’s USB port to SICK sensors (photoelectric, inductive, distance sensors, safety light curtains with service interface) that feature a 4-pin M8 (Micro-Change Type A-coded) service/configuration connector.
It converts USB to RS-232 level signals (TTL/RS-232 via sensor-side transceiver) and is recognized by the PC as a virtual COM port (VCP — requires FTDI or SICK-supplied driver). This cable is used with SICK SOPAS Engineering Tool (free) to:
- Configure sensor parameters (sensing range, hysteresis, output logic)
- Read diagnostic / status information
- Update firmware on supported sensors
- Teach / store/restore parameter sets
Key Features
- PC Interface: USB Type A (host side) — full-speed USB 2.0
- Sensor Interface: 4-pin M8 (A-coded) — pinout per SICK standard (TxD/RxD/GND/5V)
- Length: 2.5 m (025 in part = 2.5 m)
- Driver: FTDI-based — appears as Virtual COM Port in Windows Device Manager
- Compatible Sensors: Most SICK sensors with M8 service port — e.g., W4-3, W9, W12-3, WT24, DT50 (config port), UE… family, and many safety devices with M8 config socket
- Country of Origin: Germany / Hungary (SICK Global)
Model & Specification Table (SICK DSL-x Series Interface Cables)
Model | Connector (Sensor Side) | Length | PC Interface | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
DSL-8U04G02M025KM1 | 4-pin M8 (A-coded) Female | 2.5 m | USB Type A → VCP | Most common for W/T/UE sensor families |
DSL-8U04G02M010KM1 | 4-pin M8 (A-coded) Female | 1.0 m | USB Type A → VCP | Shorter variant |
DSL-8U04G02M050KM1 | 4-pin M8 (A-coded) Female | 5.0 m | USB Type A → VCP | Longer variant |
DSL-8U04G02R… | 4-pin M8 Male (rare) | varies | USB Type A → VCP | Special sensor versions |
⚠️ Important:
4-Pin M8 A-Coded ONLY: This cable fits sensors with a 4-pin M8 service/configuration socket — NOT the power/output M12 connector! Many SICK sensors have a separate small M8 ‘service’ port. Driver Install: On first connect, Windows will need the FTDI VCP driver (bundled with SOPAS installer or downloadable from SICK website / FTDI chip maker). Look for “USB Serial Port (COMx)” in Device Manager. Sensor Compatibility: Works with sensors that explicitly mention “M8 configuration port” or “service interface M8” in their manual. Does NOT replace the power cable (M12). Not for S300/S3000 Safety Scanner: Those use a different interface cable (often DSL-… with DB9 or specific S300 programming cable — check your safety device manual).
