Description
The Schneider Electric TM5 Bus Base Modules form the physical and electrical backbone of the Modicon TM5 distributed I/O system, used with Modicon M340, M580 (via ET 200M emulation or TM5 coupler), and Premium PLCs. These bases provide the high-speed TM5 internal bus and mount TM5 digital/analog I/O modules, specialty modules (counter, weigh scale, ASCII), and the Bus Coupler. Proper selection of the first base (Bus Coupler Base), intermediate expansion bases, terminal base, and power supply base is essential for a valid TM5 island.
Key Features
- TM5 Backbone: Powers and communicates with up to 32 TM5 I/O modules per island (depending on coupler).
- Hot-Swap Capable: I/O modules can be replaced without powering down the entire island (with proper configuration).
- DIN Rail Mount: 35 mm top-hat rail (EN 60715).
- Color-Coded: Visual identification of function (coupler / expansion / terminator / TB / PS).
- Interconnect: Bases lock together; bus signals pass through the integral ribbon connector.
Model Descriptions & Selection Table
Model | Description | Function | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
TM5ACBM01R | Bus Coupler Base (first in island) | Holds TM5 Bus Coupler (e.g. TM5ACSEIP-2, TM5ACCNO1) | Must be first! Supplies 24V DC to bus |
TM5ACBM11 | Expansion Base (intermediate) | Accepts any TM5 I/O or specialty module | Passes bus downstream |
TM5ACBM12 | Expansion Base (alternative depth/version) | Same as BM11 — verify mechanical fit in your panel layout | Some panels use BM12 for clearance |
TM5ACTB06 | Terminal Base (TB) | Provides screw-terminal breakout for field wiring; holds no electronics | Used for clean field wiring termination |
TM5ACBN1 | End Base (Terminator) | Closes TM5 island; contains bus termination resistor | Mandatory last piece of every TM5 island |
TM5SPS3 | System Power Supply Base (24V DC) | Supplies additional 24V DC current to TM5 bus if I/O load exceeds coupler capacity | Optional — only if total I/O current > coupler supply |
⚠️ TM5 Island Rule:[ TM5ACBM01R + Coupler ] → [ TM5ACBM11 / TM5ACTB06 × N ] → [ TM5ACBN1 ]If total I/O power consumption > coupler supply (typically 2 A @ 24V DC from coupler), insert TM5SPS3 at a convenient point in the island.
