Description
The Omron CJ2M-CPU32 is a high-performance CPU Unit for the SYSMAC CJ2M Series programmable logic controller, designed for mid-range machine automation requiring fast execution, built-in USB programming port, and onboard serial communications.
- CJ2M-CPU32 → Program capacity 60K steps (120K bytes), Data memory 128K words, Execution time 0.04 µs/boolean instruction (LD), Built-in USB port (to PG/PC) + RS-232C port (9-pin D-Sub — can be used for host link, NT link, serial printer, or protocol macro), Supports CJ-series I/O units (CJ1W-___) on the same rack — up to 40 units (depending on power supply & rack capacity) in a single CJ2M rack (max 3 expansion racks with CJ1W-II101/II201).
- The CJ2M series is the successor to CJ1M — faster, larger memory, better built-in connectivity (USB instead of peripheral bus only), and improved interrupt handling.
- Compatible with CX-Programmer V9.0+ (recommend V9.6x / CX-One package). Programs from CJ1M can usually be converted/opened in CJ2M with minor adjustments (timers/retentive bits mostly compatible — check reserved words).
Typical use: Packaging machines, semiconductor handlers, assembly stations, printing presses — anywhere CJ-series compactness + speed + built-in serial for HMI/touchpanel link is valued.

Model & Variant Reference (Omron CJ2M CPU Family — Context)
Model | Program Cap. | DM Words | Built-in Comms | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
CJ2M-CPU32 (listed) | 60K steps (120KB) | 128K words | USB + RS-232C | General-purpose — built-in serial for HMI/printer/scanner |
CJ2M-CPU31 | 60K steps | 128K words | USB only (no RS-232C) | Cost-sensitive — no need for onboard serial |
CJ2M-CPU33 | 60K steps | 128K words | USB + RS-485 (2-wire, isolated — for Multilink / Host Link / Modbus RTU slave) | Need RS-485 multi-drop (up to 32 nodes) for HMI/temp controllers |
CJ2M-CPU13 (older CJ1M) | 20K steps | 32K words | Peripheral (old round) + RS-232C | Legacy — shown for contrast |
⚠️ Critical Notes:
CJ2M ≠ CJ1M / CS1 / CQM1H: CJ2M CPUs only fit CJ-series backplanes (CJ1W-PA202/PA205) — they are NOT pin-compatible with C200Hα / CS1 / CQM1H racks. The CJ-series I/O units (CJ1W-ID211, CJ1W-OD211 etc.) are shared between CJ1M and CJ2M. Programming Cable: Use standard USB A-to-B cable (printer cable) to connect PC USB → CJ2M front USB Type B port — CX-Programmer auto-detects. No expensive Omron peripheral cable needed (unlike old C200H/CJ1M which needed CS1W-CN226 etc.). RS-232C Wiring: DB9 male on CPU — Omron Host Link pinout: Pin 2=RXD, Pin 3=TXD, Pin 7=SG (Signal Ground), Pin 4+5 jumpered (DSR/DTR), Pin 6+1 (RTS/CTS) — for PC connection use Omron cross cable (XW2Z-200S-CV / XW2Z-500S-CV) or standard null-modem if your PC serial card expects TXD/RXD crossed. For direct HMI (NT/GOT) often use straight-through Omron cable (check HMI manual). Memory Backup: CJ2M CPU32 retains program & DM in built-in EEPROM backup + super capacitor (holds ~ 20 days typical — program auto-saved to flash on “Program → Transfer to PLC”; DM area retain settings in CPU backed by super cap + battery (optional CJ1W-BAT01) — recommend install BAT01 for extended power-loss retention of retentive DM bits). I/O Allocation: I/O points auto-assigned in CX-Programmer (starting CIO 0–15 for local rack, expansion racks get next blocks) — can manually edit if needed. Each CJ I/O unit occupies fixed number of CIO/Words (e.g., 16-pt input = 1 word CIO 0–F hex per slot).
