Description

The Omron C500-CE401 is a 40-pin external I/O connector (solder-type, right-angle / vertical mount with connector cover) for Omron SYSMAC C500 / C200H / C200HS / C200HX/HG/HE PLC I/O modules and certain CS1 / CJ1 high-function I/O units (e.g., CS1W-CT021 High-Speed Counter Unit — uses C500-CE404/CE401 family connectors).
  • C500-CE401 → 40-position (40-pin) rectangular connector, solder cup type (90° / right-angle — wires soldered to pins on the back of the plug), with plastic hood/cover (connector shell) — plugs into the 40-pin I/O port on C500/C200H/C200HS I/O units, C500 Analog I/O modules, and CS1/CJ1 special I/O units that specify C-series 40-pin connector interface.
It is NOT a safety relay and NOT a terminal block end plate — it is the pluggable I/O interface connector that users wire to their field signals (sensors/actuators), then plug into the PLC I/O module’s 40-pin receptacle (FCN-361J040-AU type on module).
  • Alternative C500-CE40x family:
    • C500-CE401 = 40-pin, solder type (right-angle), with cover — listed item
    • C500-CE402 = 40-pin, crimp type (IDC / crimp contacts — less common, needs contact insertion tool)
    • C500-CE403 = 40-pin, solder type (similar to CE401 — some docs show no cover or slight variant — CE401 includes cover/housing)
    • C500-CE404 = 40-pin, solder type but straight/horizontal exit (180°) — flat against backplane — used on CS1W-CT021 counter etc. where clearance demands flat cable exit
  • For converting the 40-pin connector to screw terminals (instead of hand-soldering CE401), Omron offers XW2B-40G4 / XW2B-40G5 / XW2D-40G6 Terminal Block Conversion Units + XW2Z-___ cables — popular for field wiring.
Typical use: Wiring field I/O to C500/C200H I/O modules (ID211/OD211/AD001/DA001 etc. — older C500 I/O had 40-pin header; newer C200Hα have built-in terminals — but high-func units like analog or temp still use this 40-pin connector). Also used on CS1W-CT021 (High-Speed Counter), CS1W-PWM etc.

Key Features

  • Type: 40-pin male connector plug (mates with FCN-361J040-AU 40-pin female receptacle on PLC I/O module)

⚠️ Critical Notes:
  1. This Is a Connector Plug — NOT a Relay / NOT an End Plate!: C500-CE401 is the 40-pin plug you solder wires to, then insert into the PLC I/O module’s 40-pin socket. C500 I/O modules (analog, temp, high-func) and CS1/CJ1 special units (CT021 etc.) use this. If your C200Hα / CQM1 I/O has built-in screw terminals — you do NOT need this. If it’s an older C500 I/O or CS1W-CT021 counter — you DO need the CE40x connector OR the XW2B terminal-block converter.
  2. Soldering Required: CE401 requires soldering 40 wires (AWG 26–28 stranded, pre-tinned) into solder cups. Observe pin numbering (odd pins = one row A1–A20, even = B1–B20 typically — check module manualfor pin-function map: Input 00–15 = specific pins etc.). Use flux & avoid cold joints.
  3. Alternative = XW2B Terminal Block Converter: If you prefer screw terminals over soldering → buy XW2B-40G4 (M2.4 screw, 40-pt) or XW2B-40G5 (M3.5 screw, 40-pt) + XW2Z-100B (1m cable — connects XW2B to module 40-pin socket). This eliminates hand-soldering.
  4. CE401 vs CE404 Exit Direction: CE401 = wires exit perpendicular to module face (right-angle / vertical mount style — common on C500 I/O racks); CE404 = wires exit parallel to module face (flat / straight — used on CS1W-CT021 counter where ribbon lays flat against unit). Both are solder. Verify physical clearance before ordering — on C500 I/O racks CE401 is standard; on CS1W-CT021 either works but CE404 gives neater flat cable route.
  5. Pin Numbering: Looking at the module’s female receptacle (FCN-361J040-AU) with the keyway on top — Row A (top) = pins A1–A20 (odd numbers on left? Actually consult Omron pinout diagram: typically A-row = pins 1–20 (odd/even split — see module manual — e.g., C500-AD001 Analog Input: Ch1+ = A1, Ch1– = A2 …). CE401 plug pins are numbered correspondingly — match wire label to module manual pin-function table.

Warranty & After-Sales

  • Factory new units: 12 months warranty (against molding defect / pin plating issue)
  • Refurbished units: 3-6 months warranty (NOS — visual & pin continuity test)
  • Technical support for:
    • Confirmation of need (CE401 = C500/C200H I/O 40-pin modules OR CS1W-CT021 with right-angle exit — if you have built-in-terminal I/O like C200Hα CPM1A/CP1W you do NOT need this)
    • Pinout reference (provide pin-function map per target module — e.g., C500-AD001 / C500-DA001 / CS1W-CT021 — tell us which module you’re interfacing)
    • Soldering tips (use fine tip iron <350°C, pre-tin wire & cup, avoid bridging adjacent pins — use magnifier)
    • Alternative suggestion: XW2B-40G4 (40-pt screw terminal block conv.) + XW2Z-100B (1m cable) if you want no-solder field termination
    • CE401 vs CE404 orientation clarification (right-angle vs flat-exit for CS1W-CT021 clearance)
    • Cross-ref to C500-CE404 (flat exit 40-pin solder) or XW2B terminal block units
  • Optional: XW2B-40G4 / XW2B-40G5 Terminal Block Converter, XW2Z-100B / XW2Z-050B Cable (connects XW2B to module), Wire (stranded AWG 26-28 tinned), Flux / Solder
