Description
The Omron CP1W series I/O Expansion Units are designed to extend the local I/O capacity of CP1L / CP1H / CP1E (N-type only) PLC CPUs. The listed models cover digital input/output expansion, analog input/output, temperature sensing, and mixed I/O:
- CP1W-40EDT → 24-point Digital Input (16 × 24V DC sink/source) + Transistor Output (16 × NPN/PNP — check suffix -T = NPN sinking, -TA = PNP sourcing) — compact 40-point block.
- CP1W-40EDR → Same 24 IN + 16 Relay Output (NO dry contact — better for AC loads / isolated switching).
- CP1W-AD041 → 4-channel Analog Input (0–10V, 1–5V, 4–20mA, ±10V — 12-bit res.).
- CP1W-DA041 → 4-channel Analog Output (0–10V, 4–20mA — 12-bit).
- CP1W-8ET / 8ER → 8-point Transistor (NPN/PNP) or Relay Output expansion.
- CP1W-20DR1 → 12 DI + 8 Relay DO expansion block.
- CP1W-TS101 / TS102 → 2-channel / 4-channel Thermocouple Input (TC types K/J/T etc., with CJC — plugs into CP1W-TS shelf or CPU with TS slot on CP1H).
- CP1W-32ER / MAD11 → 32-point Relay Output block / Mixed Analog I/O (2IN+1OUT typical for MAD11 — verify exact MAD variant).
Expansions connect via the CP1 bus expansion cable (CP1W-CN@@ — e.g., CP1W-CN226 for 2.6 m) or direct dock on the right side of the CPU (CP1L-E / CP1H allow up to 3 expansion units directly; CP1E-N up to 3 with expansion cable; CP1E-E type = NO expansion).
Key Features
- Direct Bus Integration: Appear in CPU I/O table automatically — no separate address mapping (just assign starting word in CX-Programmer).
- Mix & Match: Combine digital, analog, temp-input modules behind one CPU.
- High-Speed Counter / Interrupt: Some digital inputs on CP1W-40EDT can be used for high-speed counter (via CPU capability — 2 × 100 kHz typical on CP1H/CP1L).
- Country of Origin: Japan / China (Omron Global)
Model & Specification Table (CP1W Expansion Family)
Model | Type | I/O or Function | Notes |

CP1W-AD041 | Analog In | 4 ch × 0–10V / 4–20mA (12-bit) | Needs 24V DC external or from CPU bus |
CP1W-DA041 | Analog Out | 4 ch × 0–10V / 4–20mA (12-bit) | Same power notes as AD041 |
CP1W-8ET | Digital Out | 8 × Transistor (NPN -8ET / PNP -8ET1) | Compact add-on |

CP1W-20DR1 | Digital Exp. | 12 DI + 8 Relay DO | Smaller block |
CP1W-TS102 | Temp. In (TC) | 4 ch Thermocouple (K/J/T etc.) | Requires CPU w/ TS slot (CP1H-X/H) or TS base unit |
CP1W-32ER | Digital Out | 32 × Relay DO (larger block) | Check CPU expansion slot limit |
CP1W-MAD11 | Mixed Analog | 2 AI + 1 AO (typical — verify exact MAD variant) | Compact analog for small process loops |
⚠️ Critical Fit Checks:
CPU Compatibility: CP1W expansions work with CP1L, CP1H, CP1E-N (N-type only). CP1E-E type (Basic / Economy) does NOT support expansion units! CP1H-X/H pre-wired TS slot for TS101/102 temp modules. Max Expansions: CP1L/CP1H/CP1E-N → max 3 expansion units (including analog/temp/digital). Total I/O points limited by CPU (CP1H = 320 max; CP1L = 180–320; CP1E-N = 160–300 depending on CPU). Expansion Cable: If not docking directly to CPU right side — use CP1W-CN226 (2.6 m) / CN118 (1.2 m) / CN050 (0.5 m) to separate expansions. First unit can dock directly; subsequent ones daisy-chain. Transistor Sourcing vs Sinking: CP1W-40EDT = NPN sinking (-T suffix); CP1W-40EDTA = PNP sourcing (-TA suffix). Match to your field wiring (NPN = 0V switch; PNP = +24V switch). Analog Power: CP1W-AD041 / DA041 draw from CPU bus (if CPU powers bus) OR need external 24V DC if specified — most CP1H/CP1L supply bus power for 1–2 analog modules; check manual for heavy load.
