Description
The Mitsubishi QY42P is a high-density DC digital output module for the Mitsubishi MELSEC-Q Series PLC rack. It provides 64 discrete transistor (NPN / Sink type) output points in a single-width (27 mm) module, switching 12/24 V DC load voltage with 0.1 A per point (0.2 A typical max surge) — suitable for driving indicator lamps, small relays, solenoid valves, and interfacing to DC-input devices.
Key characteristics vs other Q-series output modules:
- QY42P = 64 points, Transistor Sink (NPN — common +24V to load, output switches to 0V/COM), 12/24 V DC, 0.1A/pt — highest density DC output in Q lineup.
- QY41P = 32 points, Transistor Sink, 12/24 V DC, 0.1A/pt — half density.
- QY82P = 64 points, Transistor Source (PNP — output switches +24V), 12/24 V DC — if your wiring expects PNP source, choose this instead.
- QY10 / QY18A = Relay output versions (fewer points, slower, AC/DC loads).
The module connects to the Q bus and is auto-addressed in GX Works2 / GX Developer — output devices map to Y-addresses sequentially per slot (starting address set in I/O assignment — default auto).
Key Features
- Points: 64 digital outputs (occupies 4 consecutive words in device memory — Y0–Y63 in the slot’s allocated Y-area)
- Output Type: Transistor NPN (Sink / サインク出力) — load between +24V and output terminal; output goes LOW (≈0V) when ON.
- Rated Load Voltage: 12–24 V DC (operating range 10.2–28.8 V DC)
- Max. Load Current: 0.1 A / point; 2.0 A / common (COM0–COM7 typically grouped 8 pts per COM — verify manual: QY42P has 8 common terminals, each serving 8 outputs → max 2A per COM)
- Response Time: OFF→ON ≤ 0.2 ms, ON→OFF ≤ 0.3 ms (typical — very fast for solid-state DC)
- Protective Functions: Over-current protection per group (some versions), surge suppressor diode on outputs
- Diagnostics: Watchdog timer monitors module health; error LED (ERR) + module RDY/ERR LEDs
- Country of Origin: Japan (Mitsubishi Electric)
Model & Variant Reference (Q Series Digital Output — DC Transistor High-Density)
Model | Points | Output Type | Load Voltage | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
QY42P | 64 | Transistor Sink (NPN) | 12/24 V DC | Highest density DC — indicator lamps, small solenoids (sink wiring) |
QY82P | 64 | Transistor Source (PNP) | 12/24 V DC | Same density — if load wired between output & 0V (source type) |
QY41P | 32 | Transistor Sink (NPN) | 12/24 V DC | Half density — when 64 pts not needed |
QY10 | 16 | Relay NO (Dry Contact) | 24–240 V AC / 24 V DC | AC loads or isolated switching — slower (10 ms) |
QY18A | 16 | Transistor Sink + Relay mix? (Check — QY18A = 8 transistor + 8 relay typically) | Mixed | Special app — mixed load types |
⚠️ Critical Wiring & Selection Notes:
Sink (NPN) vs Source (PNP): QY42P = Sink (NPN) — load connected between +24V (or +12V) and output terminal Y□; when ON, output pulls to 0V (sink current from load). If your field wiring is PNP (load between Y□ and 0V, +24V switched by module) → you need QY82P (Source/PNP). Japanese/Asian machine panels often NPN (QY42P); European often PNP (QY82P). Common Terminals (COM): QY42P has 8 COM terminals (COM0–COM7), each serving 8 outputs (Y0–Y7 → COM0, Y10–Y17 → COM1 … in octal addressing). ALL COM terminals must be tied to 0V (0V/GND of DC supply) for NPN sink operation — do NOT connect +24V to COM on QY42P (that would be for PNP source module QY82P)! Current Limits: 0.1A/point; 2.0A max per COM group (8 pts). If you parallel COM terminals you can share load but respect per-COM limit. For larger loads (solenoids >0.1A per pt or >2A/group) use interposing relay or QY□ relay module. External Suppression: For inductive DC loads (solenoid, relay coil) — always install flyback diode across load (parallel, cathode to +24V side) to protect transistor. Module has internal surge diode but external is good practice for large coils. GX Works2 I/O Assignment: In [Parameter] → [I/O Assignment] insert QY42P in slot → set starting Y address (e.g., Y0000). The 64 pts occupy Y0000–Y003F (in hex — 64 pts = 4 words). Watch for overlapping addresses if manually set.
