CP1L-EM series naming: CP1L comes in three sub-families:
  • CP1L-L​ = bare-bones (no Ethernet, no pulse — just DI/DO + USB/RS-232, 10K steps) — lowest cost
  • CP1L-M​ = motion (2-axis 100kHz pulse) but no Ethernet​ — needs Option Board for comms
  • CP1L-EM​ = motion (2-axis) + Ethernet built-in RJ45​ — the “sweet spot” for machines that need network (Modbus TCP / EtherNet/IP from S7-1500/Logix) + 2-axis motion + relay outputs. Your p/n is EM = this sweet spot.
Why Relay output (R) matters: CP1H-X40DT-D (last item) was NPN transistor 0.5A​ — can only switch DC loads (solenoids, SSR, stepper drive) and needs interposing relay for AC contactors. This CP1L-EM40DR-D is Relay 2A/pt​ — can directly switch AC coils (contactors 250V AC), DC loads (30V DC), indicators, small motors​ without interposing. For OEM machines where you need to kick 220V contactors + 24V pilot lamps + maybe 2-axis stepper — this one PLC covers both. That’s the main buying reason vs CP1H-X transistor.
Legacy migration note: CP1L-EM replaces CPM2A/CPM2AH​ (first item we did) in many applications WHERE you don’t need 4-axis — CP1L-EM has 10K steps (vs CPM2A 4K), USB built-in (vs CPM2A CIF01), Ethernet built-in (vs CPM2A none), 2-axis pulse (vs CPM2A 2 HSC weak).
