Description
The CP1H-X40DT-D is an Omron SYSMAC CP1H series programmable controller — the “performance compact” tier in Omron’s PLC lineup, positioned above CP1E/CP1L (entry/mid compact) and below/alongside CJ2 (modular). The “CP1H” was Omron’s answer to replace the aging CPM2A/CPM2AH (which we covered earlier) — significantly faster, more built-in I/O, USB programming, and high-speed positioning built-in without extra modules.
- CP1H-X40DT-D decoding: CP1H = series (compact high-performance); X = Positioning-type (built-in high-speed pulse outputs for stepper/servo — 4 axes); 40 = 40 points total = 24× DI (24V DC sink/source) + 16× DO (NPN transistor, 0.5A/pt); D (after 40) = 24V DC supply (vs “A” = 100–240V AC — CP1H also has AC-supply versions: X40DT-A would be AC supply / transistor? Actually CP1H: X40DT-D = 24V DC supply, transistor NPN; X40DR-A = AC supply, Relay output); T = Transistor NPN (sink) output (vs “R” = Relay); trailing -D = 24V DC supply (Omron double-marks: the “D” after 40 = supply, “-D” at end = supply again — just confirming 24V DC in).→ So CP1H-X40DT-D = X-series (positioning), 40pt (24DI+16DO NPN), 24V DC supply, transistor output.
- CP1H sub-families (important — X vs Y):
- CP1H-X = Positioning type — 4× pulse outputs (100 kHz each, PTO/PWM), 2× high-speed counter inputs (100 kHz single-phase / 10 kHz phase-diff) — built into CPU, no extra card. Good for 4-axis stepper/servo (e.g., X-Y-Z + rotary).
- CP1H-Y = Analog type — replaces the pulse outputs with 4× analog inputs (1/12-bit) + 2× analog outputs (1/12-bit), AND retains 2× pulse outputs (100 kHz) + 2× HS counter. Good for process + light motion.
- Both X and Y share: 24 DI + 16 DO base, USB-B programming port, RS-232C built-in, expansion via CP1W modules (up to 3× CP1W expansion: CP1W-AD041, CP1W-DA041, CP1W-40EDR, CP1W-MAD11 etc. — extends total I/O to ~320 points theoretical via CP1W + CJ expansion via CP1W-EXT01? Actually CP1H max: CPU 40pt + 3× CP1W modules (each up to 40pt) = 160pt local; plus remote via Option Board + NT link / serial).
- Where CP1H sits vs CPM2A (legacy we did earlier): CPM2A is discontinued, CP1H is the natural upgrade — ~5–10× faster execution (0.1 µs/boolean vs CPM2A 0.75 µs), USB programming (vs CPM2A needed CIF01), 4-axis built-in pulse (CPM2A only 2 PTO, weaker), more memory (CP1H: 20K steps program / 32K words data vs CPM2A 4K/2K). BUT wiring NOT compatible — CPM2A used MIL connector expansion; CP1H uses Euro-terminal block + Option Board slot. Migration = rewire + program convert (CX-P has “CPM2A → CP1H” partial auto-convert, but manual cleanup needed).
Programming: CX-Programmer (v9.x+ — CP1H fully supported; also works in early v7+ with updates) or Sysmac Studio (newer, but CP1H support in Sysmac is limited — CX-P is the go-to). USB-B port on front → PC cable (standard printer USB-B to A) → CX-P auto-detects, no serial adapter needed (big win vs CPM2A). Also built-in RS-232C (Host Link / NT Link to HMI). Option Board slot on front: can add RS-485 (CP1W-CIF11), Ethernet (CP1W-CIF41), etc.
